Child Adoption

Know Your Rights

When you take a child into your home, you are creating a world for that child to live in. You know that there are many different rights that parents have, but what you might not know is what kind of rights adoptive parents have.

When it comes to adopting a child, you might not know it, but you are adopting a child for life and you are having the same rights that any other parent is going to have. Once the adoption is complete and once you have signed all of the paperwork, and the biological parents have signed away their parental rights, you are that child's parent and there is nothing that can be done to change that. You have every right that any other parent has, and there is nothing that can take that away. Once the adoption is complete, you will be a parent for the rest of your life, and the rest of that child's life. You are never going to be apart from your child once you have adopted them.

Remember though that there might be differences between the time frames. If you are considering adopting, there might be a process in which the birth parent is considering whether or not to give you the rights to their child, and when you don't know whether or not you will be considered, you might feel that you have every right in the world, but you don't. When you are just being considered for adoption, you might not have any rights in regards to the child. It all depends on what kind of adoption you are pursuing, and what kind of adopting process you re going through. You might have a waiting period in which you and your partner, or you by yourself are waiting to adopt a child, you might not have any rights. If you are considering adoption, there might be a waiting period in which you might not know whether or not you are going to get a certain child, and if that child's parent decides that they don't want to give it up for adoption, you are going to have to wait until a new child is available.

However, once you have gotten to the point where you decide that you want to adopt a child, and once you have signed the papers and been given full custody of the child, you are that child's parents and there aren't going to be any reasons that your child can be taken away from you. Once the waiting period is over and once you have signed the papers, you cannot go back on your word, and you are going to be someone's parent.
