Same Sex Adoption
A topic when it comes to adopting that has been
very highly debated is the idea of same sex couples adopting
children. For many reasons, people disagree with same sex couple
adoption, but there are a number of people advocating it as
well.
In the past, this
kind of adoption was only allowed to happen if one of the members
of the couple adopted a child, and the other simply acted as a
parent. This is still the route that some same sex couples tend to
go, because it is often easier for a single person to adopt a child
than it is for two persons of the same sex to adopt a child.
This is a situation that usually works out fine
for the parties involved, because often it isn't the legal aspects
of who is the parent that are most important when it comes to a
couple raising a child together; they simply want to raise the
child. However, this could be a problem for some couples because if
the person who has adopted the child dies and the courts decide
that the child should not be left with the person who might have
raised it but who isn't on the birth certificate, it could be
terrible for the entire family.
More and more, it is becoming possible for two
people of the same sex to both adopt a child through an agency.
Many agencies are opening their doors to same sex adotpoing because
they realize that if two people want to adopt a child, there should
be nothing that stands in the way of this.
If you are a same sex couple and you are looking
to adopt, your best bet right now is to go overseas. There are many
countries that are in dire need of someone to adopt children, and
they will work with two people, no matter what gender they are, to
adopt children who need loving homes.
Remember that no matter how you go about
adopting your child, once you have adopted a child you are a parent
forever. Whether a child has two fathers or two mothers, they are
still going to have two parents, and this is something that becomes
very important for children to have. A loving family, no matter who
it is made up of, is something that no child should ever be
without. If you choose to adopt, remember that you are taking in a
child and keeping it forever. Your lives will never be the same,
and neither will theirs.
